What is Racking?
A fundamental tool within any warehouse is storage racking and is often referred to as ‘pallet racking’. Racking is a steel structure composed of upright frames, beams, and connectors for supporting materials within a variety of storage environments.
Pallet racking structures are built to maximise storage space within a warehouse and provide better product accessibility for picking, packing and general fulfilment.
A fantastic drawing example of the components that make up racking can be found in the diagram below.
Who is erecting the racking?
The building of pallet racking is a skilled job and should only be carried out by qualified and experienced installation teams.
It is not advised that pallet racking is built, moved or adjusted by any individual without the necessary level of experience or relevant qualifications.
Furthermore, it is always advisable that a method statement and full risk assessment is carried out prior to any installation projects or maintenance works. At Nene, all of our installation teams are fully certified and are on hand to help.
