Health & Safety Manager

Role Responsibilities

• Support the Head of Compliance and Operations Director to develop, implement, and maintain effective health, safety, CDM and risk management policies and procedures in accordance with ISO standards.
• Conduct regular internal audits with the Head of Compliance to ensure compliance with the ISO and CDM standards, including off site supplier audits.
• Conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards using approved audit tools (DSE assessments, PPE, housekeeping, plant, ways of working etc)
• Record, monitor and review accident/incident reports, working with the Head of Compliance and Operations Director to investigate and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and analyse root cause analysis.
• Deliver toolbox talks for employees, contractors, sub-contractors and visitors so that they are aware of safety protocols and best practices.
• Maintain the E-training portal for NWS staff and ensure records are maintained with Clickup.
• Collate monthly health, safety and risk management performance data against KPI’s (accident/near miss data, risk assessments, non-compliance reports etc) and present to the Head of Compliance for meetings and supplier audits.
• Review legislation to stay current with UK health, safety and CDM legislation and regulations and ensure the company’s compliance and feedback any changes to the Head of Compliance.
• Support the Head of Compliance prepare reports to regulatory authorities if required.
• Test the Emergency Response and Preparedness plans and procedures through regular drills (fire evacuation, spillage, environmental evacuation).
• Foster a safety-conscious culture throughout the organisation by promoting safe work practices and encouraging employee and subcontractor involvement in safety initiatives.
• Lead Health and Safety and Environmental Representatives/Committees to ensure clear actions of safety goals, outputs and action plans and communication to all employees and stakeholders.
• Maintain the risk register and work with department managers to ensure that actions have clear plans and are completed in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Professional certification in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in construction or warehouse environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety laws, regulations, and standards.
• Experience of auditing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to lead and influence a safety-conscious culture.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Proficient in using safety management software and tools.
